Obituary of Dick Reese White

Dick Reese White, age 91, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on April 13, 2024, surrounded by family following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Oneta White, sons Stevan Joe White (Cheryl) of Cleburne, TX, and Jay White (Ann) of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren Jason White (Misty), Kristy Moreland (Jimmie), Jennifer Ellis (Clayton), Joshua White (Julie), Rachel Barsch (Ian), Kathryn White, Brad White (Christine), and 13 great-grandchildren. Dick is also survived by sisters-in-law Patsy O’Neil, Oleta Seely, Novell Griffin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Sally and James White, sister Jamie Smith and son Richard White.

Dick was born in Dallas but moved to west Texas as a young boy, where he grew up farming near Ackerly. Not only did he excel academically and athletically at Ackerly High School, but he was also voted Senior Class Favorite, exemplifying his true personality. On August 24, 1951, he married the love of his life, Oneta Franks. After farming cotton for a few years, Dick embarked on a 40 year career at Texas Electric and eventually moved to Fort Worth.

He enjoyed spending time with his brothers-in-law and was actively involved in various civic organizations, including the Monahans Optimist Club. Dick supported his sons in Boy Scouts, helping build the Scout hut in Lamesa and serving as Scoutmaster in Monahans, guiding all three of his sons and one grandson to achieve the rank of Eagle.

Dick deeply loved and cherished his entire family and was so very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking them fishing and exploring over the years with humor, laughter and practical jokes. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes which included annual trips to Devil’s River to fish for white bass. The trips were always a combination of family and friends and those annual spring fishing trips continue today. He was also an avid woodworker and mechanic, with a talent for rebuilding engines and even built a couple of roadsters.

A Graveside Service will be held at Dawson County Cemetery (Lamesa Memorial Park) at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Preacher Mark Hackett will preside.
