Listen to Obituary

Thomas Jude Alves, 68, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. A devout Catholic and active parishioner of Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Tom lived a life of unwavering faith, deep commitment to his family and community, and lasting joy.

Tom was born on June 21, 1957 in Elkhart, Indiana to John Joseph Alves III and Martha Victoria Alves. After the family moved to Texas, Tom attended St. Pius X Catholic Grade School and Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas. He excelled in athletics, especially cross country, tennis, and track. Grateful for the sacrifices his parents made to send him to Catholic schools, Tom always knew that he would do the same for his children.

He continued his education with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he met his wife Christina.

Tom enjoyed a successful career as a landscape architect and urban planner. He was known for his professionalism, work ethic, and integrity. For the last 10 years of his career he was a Sr. Facilities Planner for the City of Fort Worth. He worked on a variety of projects throughout Dallas/Fort Worth where his imagination became reality.

His projects ranged from managing the design of the first in-ground Chisholm Trail skate park project in Fort Worth to designing the meditation gardens at Harris Southwest Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital to helping on the initial design of the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. In addition, he also volunteered his time and talents to a multitude of projects across his community, most especially Eagle Scout and service projects.

He also was involved with the American Planning Association (APA), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Knights of Columbus, and served as a Boy Scouts of America Assistant Scout Master for Troop 97, that fostered his three sons to become Eagle Scouts.

Above all, the strongest pillars of Tom’s life were God and his family. Tom was married to Christina for nearly 37 years and had a beautiful, Christ-centered marriage. He truly believed his wealth was in his children and did everything he could to provide for his family. Tom led by example and allowed his quiet personality to amplify his love for Christ and those he cherished most. He was a devoted father who was very active in his children’s lives and activities which cultivated their continued success and growth. Whatever hobby his kids took on, he took on as well. Tom was truly the best son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and godfather.

Tom enjoyed the outdoors, biking, hiking, landscaping, playing with his dog, admiring landscapes, and walking on the Trinity River.

His legacy of peace and selfless service carries forward in the hearts of those who loved him, especially his family. Tom was also a true advocate of our country. He had an incredible sense of humor, a gentle spirit, and creative mind.

During the last month of his life, Tom went with his family to Yosemite National Park which culminated his love of family and nature.

Tom had a strong sense of honor for his family heritage and is preceded in death by his father, John. He is survived by his wife Christina, four children - Dominic (Shannon), Luke (Elizabeth), Maggie and Vincent, his mother, Martha, and five siblings - John (Linda), Jane (Paul), Caroline (Andrew), Mary, and Martin (Paula). He also had tremendous love for his nieces, nephews, and ten godchildren.
