Stephen “Steve” Michael Troy (72) passed away in Temple, TX on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m Monday, December 15, 2025 in the Drawing Room of Thompson's Harveson & Cole, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76114.

He was born on October 16, 1953 in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts to Kenneth and Myrtle Troy. He and his siblings, Tom, Coleen, Kevin and Maureen. traveled around different parts of the US while Kenneth served in the US Air Force. After high school, Steve also joined the US Air Force and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Steve was later stationed at Good Fellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX. There, he met and married Kathy Holder in 1980 and had two children, Connor Michael (1984) and Briana Coleen (1985). After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Steve began attending Angelo State University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in English before beginning a decades-long career in insurance and personal finance, helping people with their retirement and life insurance.

Steve was active in both Connor and Briana’s sports and academic pursuits, encouraging and cheering always in whatever activity they were involved in. Even when he moved from San Angelo to Dallas to pursue a great career opportunity, he was in San Angelo every weekend to not miss time with them.

While working for Allstate, he met and fell in love with Diana Castillo and they began a life of wine, laughter, and dogs. After their rewarding careers, Steve and Diana officially moved to their retirement dream home on Lake Belton. Steve and Diana enjoyed their mostly retired life, building a strong community of friends, neighbors, and activities within their community. They loved watching sunsets together every night. He also loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Henry and Lincoln. Both boys loved their Grandpa and loved spending time with him, showing them their toys and running around with him in a backyard.

Steve was a force of life. He never met a stranger. When asked how he was doing he always said “I’m blessed”, which sparked many conversations. Anyone who met him was someone he would remember. While this was an important part of selling insurance, it sure was annoying if you’re a kid in Albertson’s just trying to get groceries. He had an infectious smile, attitude, and general love of life that was contagious. He was a life-long learner who loved to read, passing his love of books and reading onto Briana as well as volunteering with Education Connection to help 3rd graders in his community read. He was a long-suffering Dallas Cowboys, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers fan, cheering for them despite many disappointing seasons. His love of sports also passed to Connor and Briana, especially his love of golf to Connor.

In July 2025, while on a family vacation in Maine, Steve was diagnosed with throat cancer. Even through weekly chemo and radiation treatments, he kept his spirits high - maintaining that spark until the end of his life only three weeks after completing treatment. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tom and Kevin. He is succeeded by his sisters, Coleen Martin and Maureen Norris, his children and grandchildren: Connor Troy and Rebecka Brasso, Henry Troy, Briana Troy and Mark Maston, Lincoln Maston, and his loving wife, Diana Troy and their two loyal rescue dogs, Buddy and Dixie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to APAC myhappytail.org, Friends of the Belton library, friendsbeltonlibrary.org or Education Connection, education-connection.org and continue the philanthropy Steve was incredibly passionate about.
