Michael Glynn Stouffer, a longtime resident of Aledo, Texas, passed away June 21, 2026 after a brief illness. He was the eldest son of the late Dr. and Mrs. James Glynn Stouffer. He was born September 28, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the family moved to Fort Worth in 1951 when his father was transferred to Carswell Air Force Base. His first words, when stepping off the airplane, were "Where are all the horses?" That thought became his life's passion and guided his life.
The family settled on the west side where Mike rode horses at various stables, including the Convair Recreation Area, the Horseshoe Club, and Western Ridge Riding Stables. He made friends with the horse and rodeo crowd and became a calf roper. He would have his younger brother ride a bike across their front yard and rope him off, pretending he was calf roping. He attended elementary schools in Fort Worth and then attended Southern Arizona School for Boys in Tucson, Arizona, a prep school that centered on horsemanship, where he lettered in Roping.
Mike returned to Fort Worth for high school, graduating from Arlington Heights in 1967. He then entered the TCU Ranch Management Program, part of the twelfth class. The founder, John Merrill, after shaking Mike's strong, rough hands during his admissions interview remarked, "This fellow is a real rancher".
After TCU, Mike joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and followed the rodeo circuit from Fort Worth to Houston to Cheyenne, and locations in between. He attended Weatherford College between rodeo seasons and graduated from Tarleton State in 1973. During that time he moved to the family ranch in Aledo. He married Sally Savage in 1982, who joined him there, where they resided until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; his brothers, Paul and wife, Mary Jeanne, Jim and wife Phyllis; sister, Mary Cole and husband, Billy, of Notrees, Texas; and twelve nieces and nephews.
Mike was a longtime member of All Saints' Anglican Church in Weatherford, where a family service is planned.
Memorials may be made to the church at 121 South Waco Street, Weatherford, TX 76086 or a charity of your choice.
