Margie Jo Hatcher West

November 30, 1931 — February 20, 2024

Margie Jo (Hatcher) West passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024. She was born on April 30, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas to Joseph M Hatcher and Mary Lois (Dalton) Hatcher and grew up in Fort Worth and El Paso with trips to family homes in Glasgow, KY throughout her youth.

Academic interests were always important to Margie.  She graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.F.A. and from University of North Texas with a M.F.A. and then began a career teaching. Margie taught for six years at West Texas State University before joining the TCU faculty in 1982 where she headed the Communication Graphics program. She received accolades for her academic career including a TCU Dean’s award. Her fondest memories were of the students she taught and worked with. She also designed books, posters and many local publications as Margie Jo Adkins. Margie received numerous honors and recognitions for her work from the Texas Association of Museums, the Fort Worth Ad Club, Dallas Ad League, Art Museum Association of America and others. She also served on the Board of the Graphic Design Educators and Communications Arts Center.

In her later years Margie enjoyed a wonderful marriage to Jack West and embraced her friends and life at The Stayton. Margie was an active participant in volunteer activities, traveled throughout the southwest and enjoyed overseas trips. There was always time for a chat with friends, a glass of wine and a hearty laugh with others.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her parents. She leaves many friends, students and loved ones including her daughter Lynn Anne Jones of Jenkintown PA; her beloved grandson Hatcher Ballard; her cousins Dr. Richard Garnett and wife Susan and Dr. John Garnett and wife Nancy; and a host of friends and relatives.

Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 25, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Her final resting place will be alongside her beloved Jack at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth.
