On January 22, 2026, the feast of Saints Vincent and Anastasius, Martyrs, Jefferson Stuart Thomas died unexpectedly in his home in Wadsworth, Nevada because of complications from pneumonia.

Jefferson was born on July 25, 1967, the feast of St. James the Apostle, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Ronald Gene and Barbara Carol (Thiede) Thomas. Ronald, a career Marine, was deployed to Vietnam two weeks after Jefferson’s birth, and Barbara moved them to her family’s home in Wisconsin where he was baptized at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Potosi, Wisconsin. The family ultimately settled in Texas following Ronald’s retirement from the Marine Corps.

Throughout his formative years, Jefferson displayed exceptional athletic ability. He began martial arts training in high school and competed in weight lifting. Jefferson graduated high school in Georgetown, Texas, in 1985, and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in 1989.

Ronald instilled in Jefferson a love of the military and law enforcement and gave him significant expertise in firearms. Jefferson’s proudest moment in his career was his graduation from the Travis County Sheriff’s Academy, Austin, Texas, in 1990. He served as a sheriff’s deputy for Travis County Sheriff’s Office until finding his future career in retail management.

This career change took Jefferson to Nevada where he remained. He continued his martial arts training in Nevada earning a black belt in Jiujitsu. Ultimately, he grew in his career to managing purchasing acquisition for a multinational company overseeing purchasing for a Nevada plant as well as a Canadian plant.

No one who knew Jefferson would be able to picture him without a dog (the larger the better!) and without his passport in hand ready for his next travel adventure. His travels were worldwide, and he, Barbara, and his sister, Lynne Thomas, also made several pilgrimages, including to Rome and Portugal. Wherever Jefferson traveled he carefully selected gifts to bring home to any woman in his life as well as to Barbara and Lynne.

Jefferson is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Gene Thomas.

Jefferson is survived by his mother, Barbara Carol (Thiede) Thomas, and his sister, Lynne Marlane Thomas, both of Fort Worth, Texas.

Solemn High Requiem Mass in the Traditional Latin Rite will be offered at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2620 Azle Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private at Campbell-Elrod Cemetery, Corsicana, Texas.

The Thomas family thanks all the good souls who have prayed for Jefferson’s soul and stepped forward to assist and pray for the family in this time.

The Thomas family also asks that in lieu of flowers, generous gifts be made in Jefferson’s memory to Campbell-Elrod Cemetery, c/o Christine Elrod, 9087 FM 744, Corsicana, TX 75110.
