Gary Weslyn Sharp

Gary Sharp passed away September 8, 2026.

Gary Wesleyan Sharp announced his arrival into this world on November 14, 1960. As a toddler, he was curious, busy, and every bit the stereotype of the middle child. It was a full-time job for all the family members to keep up with him and his active antics. For his mother, Sandy Sharp, it was quite often a whole lot of cleanup as well as keeping up! His younger sister, Becky, came on the scene right away. He readily welcomed her as his toddler partner in mischief. Their older sister, Terri, was the whistleblower who often reported their activities to the authorities. What a team they made.

Gary shared a passion for sports with his dad, Bill Sharp—especially football. From the earliest age allowed and all through high school, he was on the field, with Bill coaching him all along the way. If funds were not available to attend a college game, they would park near the practice field of a local high school and watch through the chain-link fence. Desperate times require desperate measures.

The first and foremost sports lesson Gary learned from his dad was the absolute necessity of being a loyal Cowboys fan and an EXTREME fan of TCU. Gary learned well and wouldn’t dare miss a game. He was NEVER far from a purple jersey and ball cap—day and night, 24/7.

But the life lesson that stayed with Gary all his life was the burning desire to help people, especially those who had less than he did. From the outside it would look like he had little more than nothing himself. But he would find a way to help. That was truly his purpose: to help and encourage.

Gary had many challenges throughout his life: some he overcame, and others seemed to never let go. Some he was born with; others he volunteered for. Most people would have given up or been destroyed by the severity of those challenges. By all normal reasoning, Gary’s life should have been much shorter. But there was a very strong core value that he always came back to. No matter what the situation, his love for Jesus and the surety that Jesus’ love for him was real always brought him through. This abiding assurance, coupled with his desire to serve, impacted others over and again. That impact will live on forever.

Gary is survived by his older sister, Terri, her husband, George, their two children, Jeremy and Aubrey, and their families. He is also survived by his younger sister, Becky, her husband, Mike, and their daughter, Jordan.
