Dr. Michael Bumagin passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Michael is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Myra Bumagin; daughters, Laura Bumagin Ladd (Breck), Kerrie Pittman Chapman (Kent), Deborah Bumagin Poteet (Scott), sons, Travis Pittman (Jackie) and David Bumagin (Amy); and 11 grandchildren, Claire Chapman, Meredith Chapman Munoz (Thomas), Andy Ladd (Anna Grace), Caleb Ladd, Julia Ladd, Allison Bumagin, Graycen Pittman, Adam Poteet, Layne Pittman, Joseph Poteet, Sarah Beth Poteet; and one great granddaughter, Emmaline Ladd.

Michael was a member of several organizations including the Jewish War Veterans, Rotary Club of Fort Worth, and Benbrook Citizens on Patrol as well as medical organizations and committees. Michael had many interests including photography, was an avid reader with a large library, loved movies especially vampire and werewolf movies, and loved everything Star Trek and Star Wars. His favorite authors were Lee Childs, John Grisham, JD Robb and Steven King. He authored the book Exploring Fort Worth with Children and a book of short stories about vampires. He was a founding member of the Fort Worth Writers Group and a member for over 30 years.

Fiddler on the Roof described the Bumagin family. They fled from Russia to Poland and then emigrated to America in the early 1900s and made homes in Brooklyn, NY.

Michael was born to Sigmund and Sarah (Aronoff) Bumagin on September 15, 1941, in the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. During his childhood the family moved from Brooklyn to Queens to Levittown and then to Great Neck. He graduated high school in Great Neck and entered Columbia University. Following graduation in 1963 he worked for a year as a lab tech at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan before entering The University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson, MS. Michael obtained his MD degree in 1968 and entered Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX, where he completed his internship and first year of general surgery residency.

In 1969 Michael entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at a base in Stuttgart, Germany until 1972 during the Vietnam War where he was an officer in the US Army Medical Corps. Upon returning to the States he began his general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center. During that time Michael met the love of his life, Myra Pittman, a single mom from OK and her two children. They were married in 1976 and moved to Memphis, TN where Michael did his plastic surgery residency. After completion of the program the family moved to Williamsport, PA and opened a solo practice. During that time the blended family had grown to 5 children. After nearly 10 years, they missed Texas and moved to Fort Worth where Myra ran his office for over 40 years while they built a wonderful life.

Michael retired in 2016 at the age of 75, after five decades of loving his work and the special patients and friendships that they developed. Since that time, Michael’s health has deteriorated and his suffering ended October 16, 2026.

A memorial service for Michael will be held on Monday, November 23 at 1 p.m. at Beth-El.Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road, Fort Worth, TX 76109.
