David Cole Thompson, 42, departed this world and stepped into eternity with Jesus Christ on June 18, 2025, at 9:12 PM—peacefully, in the loving arms of his steadfast wife, Niki.
Cole was a loving husband, proud father, devoted son, loyal brother, caring uncle, and a faithful friend to many. He was an avid outdoorsman, a driven businessman, and a man of deep integrity and service. The impact Cole had on his family, friends, and the Aledo community will be felt for generations to come.
Born June 6, 1983, in Fort Worth, Texas, Cole was the beloved son of Susan and David Thompson. He graduated from Aledo High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University in 2005.
He began his professional life at a civil engineering firm, focusing on landscape design and management. Cole later transitioned to the oil and gas industry, before answering a life-changing call in 2015 from his brother-in-law, Brandon, who simply said, “Come help me build this thing I’ve got going.” That call led him to Weathershield Roofing & Sheet Metal, where Cole found not just success, but purpose and leadership. The relationships forged there truly and deeply impacted his life.
In December 2006, Cole began dating the love of his life, Niki, whom he had known nearly his whole life. One evening at Chimy’s, they looked at each other and decided their future belonged together. They married on May 22, 2010, in their hometown of Aledo, and never left, choosing to raise their family in the community that shaped them.
Their real life began with the arrival of their sons—David Taggart (Tagg) and Joshua Troop (Troop). Being a father was the greatest joy and highest calling of Cole’s life. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, but no matter how long the day, he always made time to be fully present at home. Saturday mornings were sacred: early breakfasts with the boys and hunting shows on TV. From backyard baseball swings to dusty ranch rides in the Can-Am, Cole was their guide, protector, and hero.
Deeply invested in his community, Cole left an indelible mark. At CrossFit Aledo, he was affectionately known as “Swole Cole.” He served faithfully on the Board of Trustees at Aledo United Methodist Church, and as a dedicated board member of Aledo Athletics Inc. He was “Coach Cole” to over a hundred local kids and forever impacted the game and lives of budding baseball players. On the weekends, if you couldn’t find Cole on a baseball field, you could bet he was in a stand, filling feeders, or scouting his next great hunt. He was a lifelong, enthusiastic (and unofficial) member of every hunting club in the South.
Though Cole wore many hats (rope hats to be specific) and had many titles; husband, coach, boss, leader, friend, his favorite and most treasured title was Dad. In their own words - Tagg will always remember his hero as happy, love, and special . Troop says his daddy was the best worker, special daddy, and strong person. When the boys are sitting in a stand on a ranch, they’ll forever think of their favorite guy.
Cole’s passions were many; baseball, hunting, community, but they paled in comparison to his fierce love for his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 15 years, Niki, and their sons, Tagg and Troop; his father Charles David Thompson and wife Lisa; his mother Susan Duncan Clemens and husband William; his sister Lindsey Flowers, husband Brandon, and their children Coy and Charley; his brother-in-law Josh Torres, wife Becca, and their children Brynlee, Sterling, and Juniper; his in-laws Leonard and Rhonda Torres; and many loving cousins, extended family, and step-siblings. He is preceded in death by his niece, Zoey Nicole Torres; his paternal grandparents, Mary Lou Thompson and Stanley Arthur Thompson Sr.; his uncle Glenn Alan Thompson; and his maternal grandparents, Mildred Nanette Duncan and Glenn Wallace Duncan.
Cole’s Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, June 30th, 2025 at Christ Chapel Bible Church West, at 3910 E. I-20 Frontage Rd. South, in Willow Park, Texas. Arrangements will be made by Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aledo Athletics Inc., to help grow one of Cole’s favorite places, the AAI ballfields, where his impact as coach and mentor lives on. https://www.aledoathletics.com/
And in the words Cole: “Talk to ya later, Amigo”
