David Laurence Marion

d. July 28, 2021

David Laurence Marion died suddenly on July 28, 2021, at the age of 86. He was born to Evelyn and Johnnie Marion in Borger, Texas in 1934. Early on in life it was apparent that David was athletic, musically gifted, and intelligent. He loved sports of any kind—whether he was playing or watching. His musical talents were evident in his singing, playing the piano and whistling. It wasn’t unusual for David to hear someone say, “I must be hearing things, I thought I heard someone whistling” – sure enough it was David. David faithfully attended church his entire life, always selecting the local church with best choir. David attended Texas Tech University and, even though his mother prayed he would be a pianist, he majored in electrical engineering. After graduating he was hired at Convair, now Lockheed Martin, and worked there for 41 ½ years. He led his team at Lockheed through kindness and competence. Later he received his MSEE from SMU. When David moved to Fort Worth he met the love of his life Claudine Rayburne and they married in 1959. When most people would speak of David—it was David and Claudine or Claudine and David. They formed a partnership and their family grew to include Marty, Charla and Camilla. David was a devoted father, deeply loved by his family. He was a faithful presence in his children’s lives—coaching their sports teams, attending piano recitals, and going with them to University Baptist Church throughout their childhood.David eventually joined Broadway Baptist Church and was an active member at BBC for the last 30 years. David sang in the BBC choir, served on numerous committees (most notably the Reel Religion Film Festival committee), and traveled each year to New Mexico to work on the Navajo Reservation as a part of the Broadway – Navajo Partnership. He was a member of Fort Worth Sister Cities, receiving Volunteer of the Year in 2002.David’s family also included a daughter-in-law Adriennie, sons-in-law Wayne and Peter, former daughter-in-law Mary; grandchildren and spouses Katie and Mike, Hannah and Garrett, Quentin and Meagan, Chandler, Logan, Lake and Austin; great grandchildren Kenley, Halle, Wesley, Aubrey Ella, Blake, Lee, Louis and a host of other relatives and friends.
