David Fletcher Addis, 83, a retired mathematics professor passed away on December 15, 2025 following a brief illness.
Born on May 31, 1942 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Abraham Herman and Wanda Catherine (Kompass) Addis, he grew up in Rutherford, New Jersey. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics at Brown University and his PhD in Mathematics at Rutgers University, David moved to Texas in 1970 for his first and only job after college: Professor of Mathematics at Texas Christian University. He was a dedicated teacher and mentor to the many students whose lives he touched.
David valued friendships and will be remembered for his steady presence as well as his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
David is survived by his wife, Janet Ann Good of Arlington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael Louis Addis of Secaucus, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Union of Concerned Scientists or the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
A memorial service is planned for the Spring of 2026.
