Betty Newport King Cleveland, 87, loving homemaker, passed away peacefully at her home, Trinity Terrace, after a long illness on February 10, 2022.Mrs. Cleveland was born Sep 1, 1934, in Portsmouth, VA. She attended Woodrow Wilson High in Portsmouth, VA and Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. On Apr 16, 1955, she married Lt. Frederick Cleveland. She followed her husband during his 20 year Air Force career, having been stationed in Texas, North Carolina, London, Prestwich Scotland, Massachusetts and finally Wiesbaden Germany. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force they moved to Fort Worth where her husband worked for General Dynamics and she spent her remaining 38 years.Mrs. Cleveland was a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church attending St. Andrew’s in Fort Worth where she was active with the Altar Guild, St. Hilda’s and St. Monica’s Guilds. She was also past Vice President of the Fort Worth Branch of the English-Speaking Union and of the Rose Lisenby Society of the Fort Worth Women’s Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, TCU Fine Arts Guild, Kimbell Museum, Japanese Society and Sister Cities International. Her other volunteer work included the American Red Cross and the United Services Organization. Mrs. Cleveland and her husband enjoyed extensive travels all over the world by both plane and cruise liner including spending a year in Japan where her husband taught for the University of Maryland and several trips to Malawi, Africa, where she did missionary work.Preceded in death by her husband, Frederick of 65 years; she is survived by her 5 children; daughters: Kristina Rees and her husband David Rees, Karla Mills and her husband George Mills; sons: Fred, Jr., James and his wife Melanie, Michael and his wife Heather, daughter-in- law Roseann Vardaro; 7 grandchildren: Christopher Cleveland and his wife Akanksha, Katie Gambill and her husband Daniel, John Cleveland and his wife Hayley, Andrew Mills, Allison Mills, Taylor Cleveland and Emmy Erwin; and 6 great grandchildren; Gabriel, Grant, Aria, Josephine, Margaret and Frances.
