Andrew James Metz of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away unexpectedly August 8, 2026, at the age of 57 following a tragic accident at his home.
Andy was born on January 22, 1969, in Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas, and later attended the University of North Texas in Denton. Andy was a proud member of the Sigma Tau Gamma - Delta Theta brotherhood.
More than anything, Andy was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his loving wife, Colleen, and his two beloved daughters, Isabelle and Addison, who were truly the center of his world. He was an immensely proud soccer and gymnastics dad, always there to support and cheer on his girls.
Andy is also survived by his sister, Amy, his nieces, Alexandra and Sofia, and his mother-in-law Trish. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sam and Polly Metz.
Beyond his immediate family, Andy leaves behind many, many friends whom he loved and considered family. Friendship was sacred to Andy. He was loyal, generous, and warm, and the relationships he built throughout his life were deeply important to him.
Many of his friendships were founded in Andy's decades-long and successful career in information technology, working with companies such as Stream, Galderma, Avanade, Check Six, FAPS, and Comply Auto. While some work relationships were built around his strait-laced & serious persona, others thrived from throwing footballs & frisbees at each other and Exit signs.
The best stories started with "You see, what happened was..." Andy had a wonderful sense of humor and an adventurous spirit. He loved bringing people together, often around good food and, of course, even better stories. An avid chef and accomplished grill master, he found great joy in cooking for the people he loved. His French Onion Dip was requested at every gathering.
He loved cars and firearms and solving problems the hard way - because the hard way was usually the right way, or at least it was his idea. He had an app for everything - no really, everything including the grill. If there was something that interested him, he wanted to know all of the specifics. His lifelong passion for cars of all shapes and sizes (but really only the fast ones) set the pace for his deep interest in complex hobbies like photography, star gazing and more. He also enjoyed competitive shooting, which he approached with the same focus and enthusiasm he brought to his other interests.
He didn't aspire to be an astronaut, but he did aspire to pull as many Gs in the roundabouts as possible. Any bumpy ride or wild turn never failed to elicit a reference to Smokey & The Bandit's "driving through people's back yards, knocking over mailboxes."
There were always movies & music in Andy’s life. Whether sharing countless concerts with his family and friends, or making up his own silly songs, he was creating memories that those closest to him will carry with them. Real music lyrics or World Famous Andy Metz hand-crafted lyrics and lines from his favorite movies were part of his daily conversations bringing laughter to every room he was in. Or, he might be getting out of the conversation with a "No thanks, I'm driving."
Andy only camped in Hiltons but fell in love with Yellowstone National Park and its amazing wildlife. He was enamored with the power of the bears but really wanted to pet a bison. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his adventurous nature, and, above all, the extraordinary love he had for his family. His wife and daughters were everything to him, and his devotion to them was evident in the way he lived his life.
His absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved him, but so does the abundance of memories he leaves behind—meals shared, concerts attended, races watched, laughter among friends, and countless moments spent simply being together.
For everyone who loved Andy, there will never have been quite enough time. As one of his favorite bands, Rush, put it: “Time stand still.”
Andy was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service celebrating Andy’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Thompson Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, 4350 River Oaks Blvd. Fort Worth, TX 76114.
A reception will immediately follow the service.
