Ada Maria Baldacci Smith passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2025.
Ada was born in Ardenza Livorno, Italy, to Mario and Alice Baldacci in 1938 and grew up in Rome. She met her husband, Air Force Major Fred Smith, in Paris and they were soon married in Rome. Thereafter, she dedicated her life to supporting his military career and her family.
Ada enjoyed cooking, concerts, football (soccer) and reading. She spoke 3 languages fluently and was an avid follower of opera. As a military wife, she was active in the Officer’s Wive’s Club wherever they were stationed and won some of their cooking contests. While stationed in Thailand, she volunteered at the local orphanage to help underprivileged kids. After relocating to Benbrook after retirement, she put her language skills to use and taught Italian at a local language center, even giving lessons to one of the Bass families. She also helped local author Sharron Connelly with translations while writing The Charade of Mona Lisa. She loved and adored her grandsons and was their Nana when caring for them. Some of her greatest joys were teaching them how to cook Italian food and watching them during their many school activities.
Ada is survived by her children, Fred Smith Jr. of Fort Worth and Renee Smith of Aurora, Colorado, as well as her grandsons and their wives, Mark and Myranda Smith and Chris and Alexis Smith, her great-granddaughter, Mabel, and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Mario and Alice Baldacci, and her husband, Fred Smith.
The family of Ada wishes to thank all of the caregivers from The Key home health agency and Concho Hearts Hospice for all of their care and attention during her last days.
A Celebration of her life will be held with Visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and a Service beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
